3am
in the heart of a thunderstormÂ
tiff n i hit the highway
headed to canada
a 15 hr+ road trip is begun
lightning throws itself all around
distant thunder
rain steadily washes the earth
and the windshield whippers and convo are nonstop
tiff nudges me alert
to see the sunrise.
this friend is a "sky person"
every sunset, moonrise, starry night
is pointed out.
this all is just another beat of God's love
and when a person stares at the sky
nothing but awe sinks in
we run on laughter and mcdonald's coffee.
and memories are made
in the evening
we turn into the driveway
and hop out to hug ma and pa
on the porch.
the house is full of family all weekend long.
the nieces and nephew steal the heart all over again. two of them are toddlers and watching them interact with life is priceless.
nikki and her sis are out this weekend
while I taught in oliver, nikki taught in tonasket. which is just a hop and jump across the border. it was a good life of showing up to each other's teacherages without knocks and with granola.
and now a year later, here we sit on my childhood home's roof and enjoy the manitoba sunset as we catch up on each other's lives.
the wedding. watching lacey marrying her answered prayer was tearjerking. she was absolutely glowing.
monday morning i flap around getting my life back into that jetta and then we hug bye on the porch again and we gps gentry into the phone. crossing the border always makes me squirm inside cuz those men have so much power and you are kinda just at their mercy so i was trying to hide my nervousness but tiff says the way i was holding that steering wheel is a sure sign i was nervous.
border crossing went okay though, just took time to get another 6 months added to the passport.
and we cruise down the innerstate,
headed back to the heat of arkansas.
past walmarts
and canola fields,
over bridges
and overpasses
we carefreely cruise down the inner state
while the sun slips into its west home
staining the sky ombre.
friend asleep in passenger seat.
i sense the nudge
from above
to think on trust...
so as the sky holds the night,
and the car is silent for hours
i wonder to myself how
we would live this life if we actually did not holds doubts.
°°°
this last week was as jammed full as the canoe buckets we just finished packing. some buckets took 3 humans to get those lids latched on.
next monday morning, 10 humans from this ranch will leave on a canoe trip. I'm quite enthused.
pray though that the rain evaporates from the forecast and the snakes are nonexistent. and for overall safety.
i hope your heart holds courage
also . if you have the chance,
check out the moon tonight
