home

the roadtrip

from one home

to another home

was quiet and I was

not the jolliest roadtrip partner

for mom

also it was relaxing.

and then we steer into the driveway

girl and hound are smushed with excitement

and all the belongings start getting scattered

throughout the house again

and Im still in awe of the sleepy prairie sky.

family walks through the door.

it's good to be home.

I throw on my old chore jacket

reach into pockets to place phone

baler twine still in there

I smile

it reminds me of childhood

the horse trots across the pasture

I missed this hunk.

she still likes her neck scratched.

inspiration to write begs

so I sit on the corral panel and write

canadian geese honk behind me

the sun sets beside me

the horse stands close

days pass.

and friend shanalu flies in

to sew this wedding dress.

and now it hangs complete

in the laundry room.

and I smile everytime I see it

for I dearly love the simplicity and the vintage look it gives.

today I was ironing and mom says

“jera u gotta come see this”

so I walk around the corner and see the evening sky.

I grab a blanket and wrap it around the shoulders

and sit on the red deck chairs with a cat

and a hyper hound beside me and observe the sky

and I think how simple gratitude is.

watching sunsets makes a soul calm.

I think it's so neat

God thought up the idea

to give us this ending

to each day.

It's a sign of His love

for creativity

and his children.

the nieces and nephew.

oh those four lil humans

2 years old and under.

oh. my. soul.

their speech. their hugs. their faces.

their post-nap faces

their slobbery kisses

their enthusiasm to help with dishes

and setting tables

and their unbothered attitude about all animals

and their hand reaching for yours.

just them.

dusk drives

fresh laundry aroma filling a room

a perfect gift find

charcoal face mask

the ripping of a tea bag

leftover coffee in the press at 11:30 am

sunlight thru the window onto the rug

the tick of a clock

the warmth of a newborn held so close

ice cream and coffee served together

new socks

wind chimes

the sound of french press pouring into a cup

“the stars are bright tonight”

girls class happen.

a friend who i just finished doing life with

for past 8 months

was here for class

so that is just a joy.

lists

upon lists

and more lists.

everyday

we write lists.

and i tie on an apron

and pray as i stir

up things in the kitchen.

we are just going in faith

that God will multiply

these feeble cooking efforts.

at the bridal shower in Gentry

one of the ladies wrote a note

that still is stuck in my mind

and will be stuck on future fridge

‘’if Jesus can feed 5,000, He can feed you.’’

i don't want to rush away these last weeks

these are bittersweet days that wish to be embraced

and my eyes still well up with gratitude

at the goodness of our God
